Dates of Interest November 8 – Last day of classes before Fall Break November 9 – 14 – Fall Break
Save the Date
Tom Kersting, author of ‘Disconnected: How to Protect Your Kids From the Harmful Effects of Device Dependency’ will be offering QEHS parents an on-line session on the evening of Wednesday November 29th (more details will come out closer to the date)
Lately we have been noticing an increase in negative on-line behaviors from our students. We hope that Tom Kersting will be able to provide parents with some insight into the cyber world of our students, and give parents some strategies to have conversations and monitor their children’s on-line behavior. We encourage parents to engage with their children around what is on their cell phones, such as photos, web sites visited, text messages, group chats, and social media posts. Should you have any questions or concerns please reach out to the main office. We hope to see as many parents as possible at the virtual event on November 29th.
Halloween Fun
We are excited to celebrate Halloween with our students on Tuesday, October 31st. A reminder to parents and students that all costumes must be school appropriate. Students should not wear full face masks, excessively violent makeup, any type of cultural stereotypes or appropriation, and no weapons. Additionally, students’ costumes cannot prevent them from participating in their regularly scheduled classes; Foods, Construction, Phys. Ed, etc.
Pick N'Treat Sale: Are you interested in buying candy for Halloween or fundraising for the school? The Leadership Club is holding a candy sale in the SGA on October 30th-31st during Knights’ Block and Lunch. You get to pick out your favourite candy, including gummies, chocolates, full-sized candy bars, lollipops and more! Bundles start at $2. Hope to see you there!
Veterans’ Food Bank
Queen Elizabeth High School will once again be participating in a Veterans’ Food Bank drive through the Royal Canadian Legion. We will have drop off boxes located outside the Main Office for students, parents, and guests to leave nonperishable items. The Food Bank drive will begin on Tuesday, October 10 and end on Wednesday, November 8. Our Junior High School homeroom classes are actively involved in this food drive by bringing their items to their homerooms.
November 8 is also the day we will be participating in our annual Remembrance Day Ceremony. We are in the planning stages at this time however students will be given the opportunity to participate in the ceremony through various activities and roles. Poppies will be available on November 8 prior to the broadcast and students are encouraged to make a donation to the Poppy Fund.
Grad Fundraiser
From November 1st to November 30th, the QEHS Grad Committee will be running a coffee fundraiser with Rebel Bean. Rebel Bean is a small batch coffee roaster located in Okotoks. To achieve this goal, we organize three presentations each year over Zoom.
Our FIRST presentation titled, ‘ALL ABOUT SCHOLARSHIPS’ is scheduled on October 30th, from 8:00pm-9:00pm MDT. During this presentation, we will feature three scholars who will discuss various scholarships to apply for, offer top advice, and outline the steps for a successful application.
Following the presentation, we will host a Q&A breakout room where attendees can ask any questions they may have in a non-intimidating environment. Attendees will also receive a signup link for a FREE SPEED EDITING session provided by our scholars. To add a bit of excitement, we will hold a gift card raffle for one lucky attendee.
