Dear QEHS Families,
Knights are leaders.
This week, members of our Junior High and High School Student Wellness Action Teams (SWAT) attended the Youth Enabling Change Conference at the YMCA. Alongside students from across Calgary, they developed knowledge and skills to promote diversity, accessibility, and inclusion in their school communities.
Our Junior High SWAT team also facilitated Cauldron Confessionals, gathering student feedback about what helps them feel safe, connected, and included at QEHS. This valuable input, together with data from the CBE Student Survey, will help guide students in our SWATs to enhance both school-wide and targeted supports to strengthen belonging and well-being for all students.
At QEHS, every Knight is valued, respected, and belongs. I am grateful for our student leaders who continue to champion these important values and help make our school community stronger.
School spirit is also thriving. Thank you to our grade 8 leadership students for helping us have a little Halloween fun at lunch this week and today with our costume contest. Our fall sports teams all head into playoffs in the coming weeks. Be sure to check out the Knights Nation schedule below and come cheer on our Knights!
Wishing all of our families a safe, fun, and happy Halloween weekend.
Take care,
Jennifer Edmondson-Neily
Principal

Upcoming Radon Testing
This fall, the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) will be conducting radon testing in a number of schools across the system, including our school. Radon is a naturally occurring gas that comes from the soil. It is colorless, odorless, and tasteless. Long-term exposure to elevated levels of radon can pose a risk to health. If testing identifies radon levels above recommended guidelines, appropriate mitigation measures can be implemented to reduce concentrations to safe levels. Testing will involve the placement of small, round monitoring devices called alpha track detectors. These passive devices do not emit sounds, odors, radiation, or any other signals. They will be suspended from the ceiling in selected areas of the school that are occupied for four or more hours each day. The detectors will remain in place for approximately 91 days to collect samples. To minimize disruption, the devices will be installed on a non-instructional day or over an evening or weekend. Testing will not interfere with teaching or learning activities. If you would like to learn more about radon, please visit Health Canada’s website.

GATE Parent Education Session – Wednesday, November 25 at 7pm
The GATE Parent Association is hosting a presentation entitled: Teaching Our Kids in the “Acceleration Age” – Without the Gift of Prophecy – presented by Dr. Veronika Bohac-Clarke, University of Calgary, Werklund School of Education
This presentation is open to all and is directed to parents and teachers looking to assist our children navigate our current era, which may be described as the “Acceleration Age”, where information is quickly moving and all at once. This is especially challenging as we grew up in a different, slower moving age and are also just learning to navigate this “Acceleration Age” while trying to provide guidance to our children. We invite attendees thinking about their own questions and possible solutions in advance of the presentation. Register by November 23.
