Yearbooks – Last Chance 

This year, yearbook sales will go directly through Josten's website. Yearbooks will be for sale until February 23, 2025 on Josten's website for $40.00 per book.  As they are sold through Josten’s there will be no extra books or reprints available if you miss the order deadline.

Career Fair Canceled 

The Calgary Career Fair scheduled for Wednesday, February 19, at Central Memorial High School and CT Centre has been canceled. All students/families who registered for this event through the host, CAREERS: the Next Generation, have been notified by email. 

 

Registration and Course Selection 

For Grade 9 students and Parents/Guardians 
As Grade 9 students and their families begin preparing for high school registration and course selection, students designated to Queen Elizabeth will receive classroom presentations in the week of March 3 about the High School transition and choosing classes.  If a student is interested in attending a high school other than their designated school, you can request a transfer. The High School Transfer Process is open from February 10th to March 15, 2025, please see below for a link to the CBE web site for information.

For Grade 7, 8, 10 & 11 students and Parents/Guardians March 3- 7 Course Selection Presentations 

During this week, QEHS Administration and Student Services will connect with students to discuss course selection for next year. 

Students will be fully guided through the course selection process to ensure they are prepared to submit their course requests when the PowerSchool portal opens between March 7 – 13.

Grads and Grad Parents 

We are looking for your grad quotes for yearbook (character limit of 80 characters), baby photos for the yearbook and grad banquet, and candid photos of your grad year. Immunology Career Day 

In celebration of World Immunology Day, the Snyder Institute Trainee Committee, with the Snyder Institute at the University of Calgary’s Cumming School of Medicine, is hosting  

Through lecture-discussion-style activities, Immunology Career Day will educate high school students about the fundamentals of immunology, provide insight into a career as an immunologist, and explore some of the research projects being conducted by scientists at the Snyder Institute. This event is a wonderful learning opportunity for students interested in STEM research and those looking to explore their career options and learn more about the field of immunological research.

GATE Parents Association 

GATE Parent Education Session and General Meeting - Goals of Gifted Education 
There can be many goals of gifted education. In this talk, Dr. Matthew Makel will provide example goals that have been established by the gifted education field, while also providing context for how parents can assess whether their own goals are being met by the services that their children receive. Dr. Makel is Professor and Chair in High Ability Studies at the Werklund School of Education, University of Calgary, and a Child Health & Wellness Researcher at the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute. Non-GATE parents are welcome to attend this session. 

Immediately following the presentation, we will hold a short GATE Parent Association General Meeting. If you have a student registered in GATE for this current school year, you are a member of the GPA.

Casino Volunteers Needed  
Calling All Parents! Request for Casino Volunteers - The GATE Parent Association Casino Fundraising Event is taking place on Thursday, March 6 and Friday, March 7 at Pure Casino (1420 Meridian Rd NE). This is our most important fundraising event, which allows us to support the four GATE schools.   

Please help us support the GATE classes by volunteering for a shift on Thursday March 6th - we still have 5 open positions that need to be filled. You do NOT need to have a child in GATE to volunteer.
