 Parent Teacher Interviews 
We will be hosting on-line Parent Teacher Conferences on Thursday, March 21 from 5pm-8pm and Friday, March 22 from 9am-2pm.  If you require an in-person meeting, please reach out to your child’s teacher directly so that you can set up a time.  Parents can begin booking Conferences through their MyCBE/PowerSchool Account, under the ‘Book and Manage Meeting Times’ tab. Booking will open on Thursday March 14 at 7am.  A Teams link for the meeting will be sent to you in your confirmation e-mail.  If you have trouble booking Conferences, please contact the main office so that they can assist you. 

 Gate Parent Education Session
The GATE Parent Association (GPA) is pleased to offer this session with Chris Radu, who leads the Inclusive Education portfolio supporting GATE and over 150 Specialized Classes across the CBE. At this session, Chris will speak to various topics of interest to parents of GATE kids, and to those who may be interested in learning more about the GATE program.  

Date: Tuesday March 12, 2024 
Time: 6:30pm 
Venue: Virtual meeting 

Immediately following the presentation, the GPA will hold a short General Meeting. If you have a student registered in the GATE program for this current school year, you are a member of the GPA.  

To attend the session, please register here by March 10th. Parents of non-GATE students are welcome to attend the session.  

If you have questions related to GATE that you would like Chris to address, please email them to info@gatecalgary.ca by March 7th. 

Student Drop-off/Pick-up 
This is a reminder to parents that the street directly in front of the school is marked with signage as a bus zone.  Please do not park in the bus zone when dropping off or picking up your child.  It is reserved for buses. There is a large Visitor Parking lot behind the school which is accessible via 6 Avenue which is more suitable for this process.   

Attention Class of 2024 
Are you interested in speaking at the upcoming graduation ceremony? Have you thought about giving the valedictory address, thanking families for their support over years, or taking on the role as master of ceremonies? If so, please see Ms. Bosshart (room 237) for more details. 

Grad Bricks 
The Engineering Club will be making grad bricks for Gr 12s this year. We would love to have your feedback to gauge interest by filling out this form: https://forms.gle/cinxv8QDTCzKVsQ4A 

Pi Day 
From March 4-11 students can purchase a ticket for $1 to vote for which teachers will be pied in the face.  This ticket will also put them in the draw to potentially throw a pie! Money raised from ticket sales will go to the Alberta Children’s Hospital. 

All students who purchase a ticket should bring their ticket and come to the Sr. Gym at lunch on Thursday March 14 for their opportunity to pie a teacher! Students without a ticket are also able to attend and enjoy the show.

SAIT:  Open House March 9th  

Grade 11 summer opportunity at the U of C:  The Research Services Office from the University of Calgary is now accepting applications from Grade 11 high school students for the 2024 Alberta Innovates High School Youth Researcher Summer (HYRS) program.  

The online application deadline for students is Thursday, March 14th, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. MT. The deadline for references is Wednesday, March 27th, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. MTInterested students can apply on this webpage. 

Stem Cell Talks/World Immunology Day Field Trips for High School 
If you are interested in attending field trips at the U of C covering the subjects of stem cells and immunology, please come see Ms. Rheinstein in Room A303 to sign up for one or both field trips.  Both trips are free, full day trips where students will have the opportunity to learn about these fields of study, meet with experts in the field, and mingle with students from other schools who share these interests.  The World Immunology Day trip is on May 1 and the Stem Cell Talks field trip is on May 22.  Space is limited for both opportunities, so sign up sooner than later.

Clubs 

Engineering Club - Join the QEHS Engineering Club! The Engineering Club aims to solve problems throughout the school as well as providing a learning opportunity for students. If you like design, budgeting and being hands-on, join the QEHS Engineering Club, meeting in Rm 301 after school every Thursday. The engineering club has many hands-on projects, and is organizing grad bricks and a paper airplane competition (more info later). 

 Improv Club - The Improv Club is returning! If you have lots of experience improvising or none at all but would like to learn how this style of acting works, sessions are starting Thursdays after school in the Theatre. 

 Garden Club - The Garden Club will gather on Tuesdays at lunch in room 232. Our first meeting will be on February 13.   

 Neurodivergent Alliance - meets Thursdays at lunch in room 232.  Everyone is welcome. 

 Writing Club – meets in Room 236 on Tuesdays at lunch time. 

 Robotics – Will be meeting on Tuesdays at Lunch in Room A301 

 Crochet and Embroidery Club - Are you a current cross stitcher, embroiderer, or crocheter? Are you interested in learning one of these crafts? If you said yes to either of these questions, then this club is for you! Starting Wednesdays in February, bring your current works in progress (or the desire to learn) to room 233! Basic materials will be provided, and stitches will be reviewed. Come hang out and create with Ms. Hynes! (Room 233)
