High School Registration and Course Selection 

For Grade 9 students and Parents/Guardians 
As Grade 9 students and their families begin preparing for high school registration and course selection, we hope the timeline sent via School Messenger provides valuable insight into this important transition. We encourage students and families to attend the scheduled information sessions to make informed decisions. Please see your email for details. 

For Grade 10 & 11 students and Parents/Guardians  
March 3- 7, Grade 10 & 11 Course Selection Assemblies 

During this week, QEHS Administration and Student Services will host assemblies for Grade 10 and 11 students. These sessions will provide an overview of: 

✔Academic pathways 

✔ Course recommendations 

✔ Graduation requirements 

✔ The PowerSchool course selection process 

 Students will be fully guided through the course selection process to ensure they are prepared to submit their course
requests when the PowerSchool portal opens between March 7 – 13. 

Senior Boys Soccer 

Students interested in playing on our Senior Boys Soccer team should attend a meeting at lunch on Thursday, February 12 in Room A207.   

Field Hockey 

Attention all grade 10-12 girls interested in playing High School Field Hockey this spring! There will be an information meeting on Thursday, February 6 in room 206 at lunch. Come to find out more information about the sport and what to expect! The season will start
March 10 no previous experience needed. 

Youth Researcher Summer Program 

The Research Services Office from the University of Calgary is now accepting applications from Grade 11 high school students for the 2025 Alberta Innovates High School Youth Researcher Summer (HYRS) program. 

The HYRS Program seeks students who are well-rounded, curious about health research, and are looking for a summer research experience to help launch their career and academic goals. This opportunity allows students to work alongside UCalgary faculty members, make invaluable connections, and contribute to innovative biomedical and health research from July 2 to August 13, 2025. 

 To be eligible, students must 

1.   Be registered as a grade 11 student at a central Alberta high school. 

2.   Have a clear interest in pursuing a health research career. 

3.   Have a minimum of 85% standing in Math 20-1 or 20-2, Biology 20, and one other 20 level science course, such as Chemistry 20 or Physics 20. 

The online application deadline for students is Friday, March 14, 2025, at 4:00 PM (MT) 

Grads and Grad Parents 

We are looking for your grad quotes for yearbook (character limit of 80 characters),
baby photos for the yearbook and grad banquet, and candid photos of your grad year. Please send this information to our grad email address at qehsgrad2025@gmail.com by February 28th. In your email, please include your full name. If you have any questions about this, email the grad email address and your questions will be answered!   

Grade 12 Grad Committee 

Grade 12 Graduation Committee meetings will be held on Tuesdays at lunch in room 203 for semester 2.  Any and all students who are interested in helping to plan Grade 12 Graduation are encouraged to attend.  We need help planning fundraising events, social events, and our June Graduation event.  Even if you haven't been to any meetings yet, we'd love to have you work with us!  Please see Ms. Di Marino or Ms. Rheinstein if you have any questions. 

Casino Volunteers Needed  

Calling all Parents! Request for Casino Volunteers - The GATE Parent Association Casino Fundraising Event is taking place on Thursday, March 6 and Friday, March 7 at Pure Casino (1420 Meridian Rd NE). This is our most important fundraising event, which allows us to support the four GATE schools.  

Please help us support the GATE classes by volunteering for a shift. You do NOT need to have a child in GATE to volunteer.
We are in particular need of volunteers for the March 6 evening shift, and for the cash cage on both nights.
