Attention Class of 2024

Junior High Dance – Leap Year Birthday Party! 

When: Thursday Feb 29 6pm-8pm 

Where: at QEHS in the Sr. Gym with a DJ and snack table (costs .50-$2) 

Who: ONLY QEHS Jr. High (grades 7-9) students 

Tickets on sale 26-28 at lunch in the SGA (cash only) $5 or $7 at the door. Must bring a valid QEHS student ID 

 

Senior Band 

Congratulations to the QEHS Senior Band on a fantastic performance this past weekend at the Alberta International Band Festival. They performed for a full house of friends and family as well as guest adjudicators from California and Arkansas. They worked with a guest conductor to improve their skill and ensemble abilities which will help prepare them for their trip to the Con Brio Music Festival in Whistler, British Columbia in April. 

 

Information Sessions on Neurodiversity 

Anyone who is interested in learning more about Neurodiversity is encouraged to come by Room 232 at lunch on any day next week (February 26 - 29).  Bring an open mind and a list of questions!

 Transitions to Post-Secondary Education Event - All prospective post-secondary students and families are welcome to attend this free event on Saturday, March 2. Topics covered will be accessing academic accommodations; examples of academic accommodations and required documentation; additional supports, services, and resources; and grant funding information. After student panel discussion, participants can speak to the following representatives at information booths about academic accommodations: St. Mary's University; Mount Royal University; University of Calgary; SAIT; Bow Valley College; Ambrose University; Alberta University of the Arts; Olds College; Athabasca University; CanLearn Society; Learning Disabilities and ADHD network; and Sinneave Family Foundation.

SAIT:  Open House March 9th  

Grade 11 summer opportunity at the U of C:  The Research Services Office from the University of Calgary is now accepting applications from Grade 11 high school students for the 2024 Alberta Innovates High School Youth Researcher Summer (HYRS) program.  

The online application deadline for students is Thursday, March 14th, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. MT. The deadline for references is Wednesday, March 27th, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. MTInterested students can apply on this webpage. 

Science Fair 

We will meet at lunch time on Monday, March in room A303.  This will be our second to last meeting before Science Fair, so come with any questions you have or any advice you’re looking to get from your fellow scientists. 

Stem Cell Talks/World Immunology Day Field Trips for High School 
If you are interested in attending field trips at the U of C covering the subjects of stem cells and immunology, please come see Ms. Rheinstein in Room A303 to sign up for one or both field trips.  Both trips are free, full day trips where students will have the opportunity to learn about these fields of study, meet with experts in the field, and mingle with students from other schools who share these interests.  The World Immunology Day trip is on May 1 and the Stem Cell Talks field trip is on May 22.  Space is limited for both opportunities, so sign up sooner than later.

Soccer 

Any high school boys who are interested in playing soccer for the school this spring should come to an organizational meeting in room 231 on Tuesday March 5 at lunch. It is important to attend, but if you cannot, please see Mr. Perfect or Mr. Obregon to let them know of your interest.

If you have taken or are currently taking a French class with Mme. Bourdages (Chan) this school year, you are eligible to enter votes for this Battle of Songs contest to win a free lunch from the cafeteria! Clubs 

Engineering Club - Join the QEHS Engineering Club! The Engineering Club aims to solve problems throughout the school as well as providing a learning opportunity for students. If you like design, budgeting and being hands-on, join the QEHS Engineering Club, meeting in Rm 301 after school every Thursday. The engineering club has many hands-on projects, and is organizing grad bricks and a paper airplane competition (more info later). 

 Improv Club - The Improv Club is returning! If you have lots of experience improvising or none at all but would like to learn how this style of acting works, sessions are starting Thursdays after school in the Theatre. 

 Garden Club - The Garden Club will gather on Tuesdays at lunch in room 232. Our first meeting will be on February 13.   

 Neurodivergent Alliance - meets Thursdays at lunch in room 232.  Everyone is welcome. 

 Writing Club – meets in Room 236 on Tuesdays at lunch time. 

 Robotics – Will be meeting on Tuesdays at Lunch in Room A301 

 Crochet and Embroidery Club - Are you a current cross stitcher, embroiderer, or crocheter? Are you interested in learning one of these crafts? If you said yes to either of these questions, then this club is for you! Starting Wednesdays in February, bring your current works in progress (or the desire to learn) to room 233! Basic materials will be provided, and stitches will be reviewed. Come hang out and create with Ms. Hynes! (Room 233)
