Peer Tutoring - Are you looking for some help in your core classes? QE has peer tutors available to support students in core classes. Our peer tutors have taken courses and achieved success and are happy to share the strategies that worked for them such as how to understand the course content. Most peer tutors will be available during Knight’s Block where they can meet you one-on-one. Please come to student services to inquire about our Peer Tutoring program.

Transitions to Post-Secondary Education Event - All prospective post-secondary students and families are welcome to attend this free event on Saturday, March 2. Topics covered will be accessing academic accommodations; examples of academic accommodations and required documentation; additional supports, services, and resources; and grant funding information. After student panel discussion, participants can speak to the following representatives at information booths about academic accommodations: St. Mary's University; Mount Royal University; University of Calgary; SAIT; Bow Valley College; Ambrose University; Alberta University of the Arts; Olds College; Athabasca University; CanLearn Society; Learning Disabilities and ADHD network; and Sinneave Family Foundation.

Grade 11 summer opportunity at the U of C: The Research Services Office from the University of Calgary is now accepting applications from Grade 11 high school students for the 2024 Alberta Innovates High School Youth Researcher Summer (HYRS) program.
The online application deadline for students is Thursday, March 14th, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. MT. The deadline for references is Wednesday, March 27th, 2024, at 4:00 p.m. MT. Interested students can apply on this webpage.
Science Fair
Please plan to meet at lunch time on Monday, February 26th in Ms. Rheinstein's classroom (A303). QEHS Science Fair will be held during periods 3 and 4 on March 14th, so we will be discussing plans for that as well as making sure everyone is on track with their projects.
Stem Cell Talks at UofC
Are you a high school student who is interested in medicine, technology, and/or applications of biology? The University of Calgary is hosting a Stem Cell Talks event for high school students on May 22 from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm and QEHS has been invited to attend. If you’re interested in this unique opportunity to hear from experts, ask questions, and learn more about an area of interest, please see Ms. Rheinstein in room A303 by February 29 to put your name on the list. Once we have our list of interested participants, students will be asked to attend two short meetings at lunchtime to get forms and receive information about event logistics.

Clubs
Improv Club - The Improv Club is returning! If you have lots of experience improvising or none at all but would like to learn how this style of acting works, sessions are starting Thursdays after school in the Theatre.
Garden Club - The Garden Club will gather on Tuesdays at lunch in room 232. Our first meeting will be on February 13.
Neurodivergent Alliance - meets Thursdays at lunch in room 232. Everyone is welcome.
Writing Club – QEHS is pleased to announce a new club. It will be hosted by our very own Writer in Residence, Marc Herman Lynch, who has been with us since November. Marc plans on handling everything from putting a sentence together to becoming a Margaret Atwood, and this by June. There will be opportunities to improve writing, chat about favourite writers/writing, read favourite clips to an audience, field trips to the City Library and/or The U of C to attend lectures/meet professors. All grades are welcome. The club will meet in room 236 on Tuesdays during the lunch hour.
Robotics – Will be meeting on Tuesdays at Lunch in Room A301
Crochet and Embroidery Club - Are you a current cross stitcher, embroiderer, or crocheter? Are you interested in learning one of these crafts? If you said yes to either of these questions, then this club is for you! Starting Wednesdays in February, bring your current works in progress (or the desire to learn) to room 233! Basic materials will be provided, and stitches will be reviewed. Come hang out and create with Ms. Hynes! (Room 233)
Chess Club - Tournament dates: February 7 after school (3:35 - 4:30) and Feb 14 at Lunch (12:15-12:45) for our Queen Elizabeth Chess Club members. Students will be competing in Beginner or Intermediate groups. Prizes will be offered for 1, 2 and 3 places in both groups. We are looking for donations of small items to use as prizes (candy, bookmarks, card decks, fidget tools, small brain games, $5 gift cards, or any inexpensive item suitable for gr 7-12 competitors.
