Unique Pathways – Applications Due April 10 

Summer and Fall applications for Unique Pathways Dual Credit or Exploratory programs are now open. 

Grade 10-12 students should submit their completed application package to Student Services  by end of day on Thursday, April 10, 2025 for consideration. Successful applicants will be contacted in early May.

 Information Night 

CBE Unique Pathways will be hosting an online session on Thursday, April 3, from 6-7 p.m. to provide a general overview of upcoming programs and to answer student and parent questions. 

*Please note that registration is not required, however, it is helpful for the team in tailoring our presentation to the audience. 
 

The Calgary Board of Education collaborates with post-secondary institutions, industry partners and community organizations to offer a wide-range of unique opportunities for students. These range from practical, hands-on learning experiences in Exploratory programs to Dual Credit courses and programs that allow students to participate in post-secondary learning with the support of a supervising CBE teacher. 

 

External Learning Opportunities 

Recovery Alberta and Community Education Services – Online Sessions for Families and Caregivers.  

The following is a list of Online sessions that are in partnership with Community Education Services and Recovery Alberta. The sessions are presented below with a link to register for the webinars. Please share the sessions in your school newsletter to guardians and parents as you see fit.  

 Vaping and Youth | April 9 | 11:30am  

  • This session covers the rising concern of vaping among youth, providing insights into devices, substances, and strategies for effective conversations.  

 Headache in Kids and Teens (Causes, treatment, approach and relationship to Mental Health | April 10 | 11:00-12:30pm  

  • Objectives of the session are to review types of headaches in youth and how common they are, Review how we approach treating headaches in youth, Review the relationship between headaches in youth and mental health  

 Navigating Social Media and Teens | April 16 | 6:00-8:00pm  

  • The world of social media is constantly changing, and it can be hard to keep up. This session will look at some of the most popular platforms among Canadian youth and how to protect privacy and keep everyone safe. We will also discuss the effects of social media use on teen mental health and how to promote healthy social media habits in a digital world.  

 Building Resiliency in Today’s Youth | April 17 | 11:30-1:30pm  

  • Before High School graduation, one-third of adolescent girls will experience depression, anxiety disorders, self-harm or an eating disorder. However, there is an incredible power in caregivers who can support our youth, both young women and men, before they seek therapy. At Juno House®, we believe in the extraordinary healing power of parents, caregivers, coaches, and teachers. In our 1.5 hour workshop presentation, we will share steps and strategies from the Juno House Therapeutic Model® that will provide effective emotional coaching tools for today’s youth as they develop through adolescence and into young adulthood.  

 

 QEHS Theatre Program:  Picasso at the Lapin Agile 


Theatre students have been hard at work over the last 3 months, putting together a hilarious piece written by Steve Martin; Picasso at the Lapin Agile. The show will open on Tuesday, April 15 and run until Thursday, April 17.  

Doors will open at 6:00 pm and the show will begin at 6:30 pm each night. Tickets will be sold at the door; $15 for adults and $10 for students. Come on out to enjoy an evening of laughs and support the Queen Elizabeth High School Theatre Program with these talented young actors.  You don’t want to miss it! 

 

Knights Charge to Nationals in Montreal! 

After a grueling twelve hours of debate on Saturday for Provincials, Queen Elizabeth has been invited to Montreal for Junior Open Debate Nationals! Former Calgary Mayor, QEHS Debate Alumnus, and leader of the Alberta NDP Naheed Nenshi was on-hand to present our team with their third-place awards. 

 

Student Vote! 

Students will be invited to participate in the Student Vote activity on Friday April 25th. This program is made possible through CIVIX, which is supported by the Canadian government and Elections Canada. This activity will give students the chance to experience democracy firsthand, rather than reading about it. The students will have the opportunity to cast their Student Vote ballot for the federal election, with grade 9 students running and acting as polling officers. Students will have opportunities in their Humanities and Social Studies class to have discussions prior to the vote day. 

 

Grad T-Shirts for Grade 12 Students 

To help commemorate your graduation; all grade 12 students are being gifted a free QEHS Grad 2025 t-shirt!  

Ms. Woelk in the Main Office will be collecting everyone's sizing information for t-shirts, so between April 1 and April 10, stop by the Main Office to make sure you get the correct size ordered for you.  We'll be submitting our order by April 14 so don't dawdle in placing your order - if you don't place your sizing order by April 10, you will risk not having a t-shirt. 

At the end of the year, we'll have a grad t-shirt signing event so you'll definitely want to make sure you get that order in! 

 
QEHS Band Parents Association 

Had enough of winter? Think Spring: buy some plants and dream of warmer days:  QEBPA's final fundraiser of the school year is always a popular one - outdoor plants! We're doing a 20-day Growing Smiles Fundraiser blitz with all proceeds going towards new uniforms for our band students starting the 2025-26 school year. Please support our band program by purchasing some beautiful plants for yourself or your loved ones. Geraniums, petunias, marigolds, herbs, strawberries, hanging baskets - so much to choose from.
