Dear QEHS Parents and Guardians,

It was great to be back after spring break.  Hopefully the weather starts to feel like spring.

We are seeing an increase in cell phone use in school, and teachers reviewed the personal mobile device (PMD) expectations with all students this week. We are hoping that parents can support us to remind their children of the expectations.

For junior high students (grades 7-9), the policy is “Away for the Day”, and all cell phones, smart watches, Bluetooth earphones, etc. should be stored in students' lockers for the entire day.  Students are asked not to access their phones until they are on the bus or sidewalk outside.  If you need to reach your child during the day, please call the main office.  Students can also come to the main office to use our phone if they need to contact you.

High school students are asked to be leaders in our school and follow the high school policy, which states that students cannot use their phones during instructional time.  We ask our high school students not to be on their cell phones, smartwatches, Bluetooth headphones, etc. in the hallways. Students are permitted to use their devices in the SGA or cafeteria during spares and lunch time.  They are also allowed to use their phone in class when their teacher has given them permission for a learning purpose.

Consequences for not following the expectations were also reviewed with students this week.  They are:

  • First Incident: verbal warning.  All students received this together this week.
  • Second Incident: Confiscation. Student turns in their PMD to their teacher, or the office, and they can pick it up at the end of the day in the main office.
  • Third Incident: Confiscation. Student turns in their PMD to their teacher, or the main office, and parents are contacted.
  • Fourth Incident: Confiscation.  Parents will be asked to come and pick up the device to review the next steps which may include asking the student to leave their device at home or turn it in at the beginning of the day and retrieve it when they leave.

Thank you for your ongoing support in helping us reinforce the personal mobile device expectations. If your child needs accommodations to access the PMD for learning or well-being, please contact your child’s Assistant Principal.

Have a great long weekend.

With gratitude,

Jennifer Edmondson-Neily
Principal

QEHS Bike-A-Thon 2026 — Riding for Youth Mental Health!

We’re thrilled to announce that Queen Elizabeth High School’s Bike–a–thon is back! Last year, our school was able to raise $12,000 for youth across the city. We're more than ready to do it again, and we need your support.

On May 7, our students will be biking for 12 hours straight to raise funds for the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation, with proceeds going directly to The Summit: Marian & Jim Sinneave Centre for Youth Resilience. This vital mental health facility supports kids, teens, and families in crisis with compassion, care, and community-driven support. Team QEHS is proud to join the Kids Helping Kids program because every child deserves access to mental health resources and a hopeful future.

How can you help? Donate, share our campaign, or simply cheer us on! Every contribution makes a difference. Donate here- https://my.childrenshospital.ab.ca/https-my-childrenshospital-ab-caknightsbikeathon

How can students participate? Students need to sign up by Friday, April 10 to participate in the event. Sign up here- https://forms.gle/4LytwswxMFfK6qCj8

Let’s come together to support youth mental health and ride for change!

Scholarship and Awards Presentation

All high school students are welcome to attend a Scholarship and Award Presentation in the Learning Commons during lunch on April 8, 2026. The PowerPoint presentation will also be available in the Student Services D2L shell.

QEHS Band

A friendly reminder, for those families participating in the Grade 9 Band Camp of the mandatory parent meeting happening in the QEHS Library on Wednesday, April 8 at 5:30pm. Only one representative from each family needs to attend as this will give Mr. Parker a chance to go over all trip information, student expectations, and answer questions.
