Dear QEHS Parents and Guardians,

Thank you to all the parents who attended the School Council meeting on Monday evening.  I was inspired by our parents’ commitment to helping make QEHS the best place to belong, learn and thrive.

This week, I have three very important messages to highlight that I want to include in my principal’s message because I need your help!

  1. School Safety is our number one priority, and I want to bring to your attention important safety reminders for picking up and dropping off your child. Please do not park in the bus zone in front of the school.  Please speak to your child about using the crosswalks and not “J-walking” across the street to meet a vehicle for pick up.
  2. The annual deadline for families to complete Demographic Verification Forms passed on Monday, Sep.15. Currently, approximately 60% of our students do not have a completed Demographic Verification Form for the 2025-26 school year. These forms are a legal requirement from Alberta Education for funding purposes. Please log in to your MyCBE account to complete the annual verification as soon as possible.  If you need help, please contact the helpful main office staff for support.
  3. The School Council is coordinating a casino fundraiser on October 12 and 13 and they need your help!  Please consider volunteering as the funds raised help create enriching learning opportunities for our students. Details and sign up information below.

Thank you for your attention to my three important messages this week.  There are also additional Knight’s Notes below.  Based on parent feedback, we are organizing the notes by parent messages, and student messages by grade.  We hope the Knight’s Notes help you feel connected and informed about all the amazing events and opportunities in our school community.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Edmondson-Neily

GATE Parent Association

Join the GATE Parent Association Executive / Attend the AGM
The GATE Parent Association needs new volunteers to keep going strong! We’re looking for a President, Vice President, Secretary, and Parent Education Chair. Support and training will be provided to help with the transition into each role. It’s a great way to connect with other GATE parents and ensure gifted education continues to have a voice. Roles will be voted in at the AGM, which will take place at 7:00 pm on September 23rd.

Student Updates

Women in Science Speaker Club

We’re excited to introduce the Women in Science Speaker Club, a new opportunity for students at our school. This club provides girls and gender-diverse students with a supportive space to connect, learn, and be inspired by professionals working in a variety of STEM careers.

Each month, students will hear directly from guest speakers who share their experiences in science, technology, engineering, and math. The goal is to spark curiosity, broaden perspectives, and encourage the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.

First meeting:  October 1st at lunch in room A303 (Ms. Freeze)

We encourage interested students to join us to learn more about the program and speaker line-up.

Terrarium Club

Our school is launching the Terrarium Club, where students will work together to design and build a self-sustaining terrarium for the entire school community to enjoy. This hands-on project gives students the chance to explore ecology, sustainability, and creativity while learning how living systems interact and thrive.

First Meeting:  September 23rd at lunch in Room A303 (Ms. Freeze)

We’re excited to see students collaborate on a project that combines science, teamwork, and care for the environment.

Terry Fox Run

Queen Elizabeth will be participating in the 45th Annual Terry Fox run again this year. September 25, students will be taking part in this event during their PE block.   We are welcoming donations online.  See our webpage for more information or search up Terry Fox Foundation and find our school.  Cash donations are welcomed and can be placed in the office in the "Toonies for Terry" container.
